Carrollwood locals are lucky to have this killer barbecue joint just a stones throw from home. Busy families come to purchase smoked meats by the pound to tote home for dinner. And the 60-seat dining room is always busy with barbecue fanatics who cant say enough about owner Alex Cooks home-style recipes. Cooks can cook, pun intended, and his mantra is Southern-style 'cue all the way.

The shop has been open and bustling for more than a decade, and Cooks knows his stuff. Pork, ribs, chicken and beef are seasoned as they smoke, inside an oak-fired smoker, and most of the savory flavors youll taste were hours upon hours in the making. The mild yet flavorful barbecue sauce here, Cooks secret recipe, is another highpoint slosh liberally on your meat and dig in. Side dishes are of the standard comfort food variety, including fried okra, mac n cheese, onion rings, potato salad and baked beans. Wash it all down with a glass of (what else?) icy sweet tea.

    Every item on the menu is absolutely delicious. The food is so good you must take some home and share with friends and family.

    The ribs are the best I have ever had but it is Alex's smile and that of his staff that make you feel right at home. I love to hear them kid and play around with one another and Alex is the biggest joker of the bunch. I have been going there at for over 7 years on a regular basis. Great job not only making great comfort food but keeping the customers smiling. Rachel

    I've known Alex since he was with Alabama's Campbell BBQ( circa 1990...). Not only was he the BEST Cook! But has such a pleasant personality!!! When he was able to open his own restaurant I was sooo glad!!!. Absolutely THE BEST RIBS!!!!!! Gloria & Martin Cordova

    I EAT IT ALL THE TIME, WHEN OUT OF TOWNER COME , I TAKE THEM OUT TO DINNER HERE. THEY ALL WANT TO COME BACK FOR MORE. MY FAVORITE IS THE CHOPPED PORK NICE AND WET WITH ALEX'S SAUCE, JUST LOVE IT

    I've eaten everything he has and I have not found any thing I don't like. My very most favorite is the pork, sauce and okra.. You can also catch him at Fox's Corner, under the tent of course, on Sundays. That's Gunn Hwy and N. Mobley Road 11:00 - 5:00. Thats when I catch him. I know I sound like his Mother, but I'm not!
