With several locations across town -- from Lake Buena Vista to Winter Park -- this immensely popular Orlando chain has mass appeal. Still, each Ale House draws a niche crowd. Tourists abound at the I-drive outpost, and budding yuppies from MetroWest descend at Kirkman. The Waterford Lakes locale caters to a loyal student clientele from the University of Central Florida, located just a few miles down the road. It's one of the best spots in town to watch the UCF Golden Knights play an away game, if only for the sheer spirit factor. There are huge screen TVs hanging everywhere, and the wooden bench booths fill with thirsty coeds who toss back pitchers while cheering for their team.

There are scores of beers on tap, including Yuengling. And the nosh dished up is some of the best -- and best priced -- pub food around. Loyal patrons give the chicken nachos and burgers high marks, and the restaurant's signature 'zingers' -- spicy buffalo-style chicken tenders -- are rightfully renowned. Happy hour is crowded most nights, and mostly with budget-conscience students -- they can't resist the $1 specials on single liquor drinks and draft beers, offered till 7PM Monday through Thursday.     As most people know, the Ale House has some great prices on low end drinks. I used to be a frequent diner there until recently when I found out that their Customer Service leaves a lot to be desired. My wife ordered a bratwurst sandwich that came from the kitchen with mustard already applied. Apparently, everybody likes mustard (they must have thought!), but she does not. She asked for some barbeque sauce to drown out the taste of the mustard. They brought it out but charged extra for it on the check! When I brought this to the manager's attention, she informed me that whenever they "go to the kitchen" for something such as that, there is a charge. I even wrote a letter to the company's main office in Jupiter, FL and got a letter back saying that they probably would not have charged it in my case, yet they DID! They never made it right. So, moral of the story: if your food comes out wrong, send it back! Don't try and "fix" it with a condiment; your wallet will be a little lighter for the effort. There are lots of similar restaurants where the management is more responsive than the Alafaya Ale House.
