When you're not up for a scene, there's Wet Willie's. This bi-level beachview watering hole has greasy appetizers and great chicken corn chowder. Sip potent frozen drinks with names like 'Attitude Improvement,' 'Bahama Mama' or the infamous 'Call a Cab' from the balcony for an up-close view of the sidewalk and beachfront. The decor, like the atmosphere, is cheerful.

The upstairs bar mural depicts a woman pouring an elixir into a glass and a mermaid-like man swimming underwater, and hanging from above are funky, futuristic sculptures of tubing and wire mesh. The good-natured though clearly stressed wait staff manages the occasionally overwhelming crowd with ease, and the door personnel (complete with police officers) are stern but friendly. Good, affordable fun.
