Compared to the rest of the world, Americans have some serious problems with portion control. And nowhere is this phenomenon more obvious than at Buca di Beppo, a family-style restaurant specializing in immigrant Southern Italian cooking. From pizzas "as big as bathmats" to meatballs "as big as your head" to the chicken cacciatore (alternately titled, "Seven Pounds of Love") the Buca is all about strapping on the feedbag. Entrees, which include the usual lasagna, spaghetti, ravioli and chicken, are meant to serve two to five people, though doggie bags are the norm.
The food isn't the only thing that's big at the Buca. Though you wouldn't know it from its non-descript brick exterior, Buca's interior -- homage to the Italian-American supper clubs of the '40s and '50s -- makes a huge impression with floor-to-ceiling photos (Sophia Loren is a popular subject), tacky travel souvenirs, and more crusty old tchotchkes than your grandmother could collect in 10 lifetimes. With incredi-bubbly servers and themed tables like the Pope's Table and the Kitchen Table (located smack-dab in the middle of Buca's kitchen), even the atmosphere is larger-than-life. -- Kerry Speckman

Lola wants THIS!
My Best friend christine turned me on to this place when one opened at the Florida Mall a few years back. What can I say, I have never been able to go enough times lol. The service and ambience are tops, and the food is so good I refuse to eat Italian anywhere else!....Make sure to try the ravioli!!!!
Add CommentAlmost 5 stars.......but

The ambiance was excellent. The service was very nice. I loved the theme as well. Most of the food was perfect, and that's really what's frustrating about the experience. The muscles marinara appetizer was a bust and at $14.95 it was a truly tiny portion. It left a really bad taste in my mouth. The daily specials are especially nice and reasonably priced. I highly reccomend the frutti di mare(pasta with seafood in a marinara)Bottom line is a few of the menu items are disapointing. If you navigate the menu well and know what's good you'll be in for a delightful dining experience, as well as a good bargain. If you don't you may wind up with a bill that's too big and some food that is mediocre, paired with other food that is simply stellar. SOme of the ala carte style ordering can unnecessarilly pad the bill. My advice? Ask the wait staff for suggestions they are really knowledgable and friendly. Still, I'd definitely recommend it and go again. Especially now that I have gone a few times and know how to navigate the menu.
Mmmmmm!
I love the ambiance of this place. I have tried many different things from the menu and have yet to have a bad experience. This is my husband's birthday choice every year. My favorite meal is the salad with gorgonzola and prosuitto, the chicken parmesan, and the bread pudding. This is a dining experience we look forward to every year!
