It's hard to imagine the Prince of Jordan sucking down a slice in a Pittsburgh pizza parlor, but alas, it happened, not at Pizza Hut or Papa John's, but at Primanti Brothers. And South Floridians needn't be of royal descent to enjoy a slice of pizza that's fit for a prince.

Thankfully, this Pennsylvania landmark decided to go south, not just for the winter, but every day, 24-7. Perfect for satisfying the late-night munchies, lunch, dinner or even breakfast, Primanti Brothers' Fort Lauderdale outpost, like its Pennsylvania sibling, is actually best known for their famous sandwiches, ones that make Dagwood's quadruple deckers look like Blondie put him on a diet.

But since Philly cheesesteaks aren't exactly a Florida menu mainstay, the Primanti Brothers expanded their menu to include their 'Almost Famous Pizza,' which, judging by the taste of it, should have dropped the 'Almost' from its name a long time ago. Just as decadent as Primanti's mammoth sandwiches, the pizza is a heaping pie of cheese, sauce and crust that can be custom-made to anyone's tastes with an unabridged assortment of toppings and seasonings. Now, when people ask what Pittsburgh's got to offer besides the Steelers and the Andy Warhol Museum, the answer is apparent.

  • Best pizza in Florida

    Review rating : 5out of 5   quips1264 - 06/13/2008

I finally found a pizza that doesn't taste like I'm eating the cardboard. It has the right thickness and the taste of the sauce is second to none.
I travel from Naples just to enjoy the pizza and the best unique sandwiches.

Primanti Brothers please open up a restaurant on the South West Coast of Florida.

    Simply The best

  • Ok-- but not in the same league with Umberto's on Commercial Ft. Lauderdale

    Review rating : 3out of 5   Turnma - 06/11/2008

Umberto's for pizza is the best and Primanti can't touch it-- Grandma's rectangular--the quintissential recipe and flavors of true Italian pizza.
stick to the sandwiches at Primanti's--

  • Oakland Park Location was Terrible!!

    Review rating : 2out of 5   OakParkFL36 - 05/31/2008

My partner and I do not get out much and when we do, we usually go to Bona's for Italian. Looking to try something different, we went to Primanti's. The service was terrible and the did not compare. The pizza was not made to oder as we are used to. There should be more voting options for the Ft. Lauderdale area.

  • Good Place

    Review rating : 4out of 5   nmr82 - 12/17/2007

First off, I'd like to add to the writer of this review that philly isn't the same place as pittsburgh, so i don't know why he mentioned philly cheesesteaks and how they "aren't exactly a Florida menu mainstay", and for that being the reason they added pizza to their menu. They aren't known for their cheesesteaks and as far as I know, they dont even have any on their menu. That being said, all the food is good on their menu and so is the pizza

  • Far from Good

Definately not a great slice of pizza. Decent at best... I'd recommend GoodFellas pizzeria in Coral Springs... now I'm only worried I won't get a seat for telling you guys!

  • You've Got To Be Kidding!

    Review rating : 2out of 5   elfiejr - 04/03/2007

Pizza is not bad, maybe average. What really hurts them is the service might possibly be the worst in S. Florida. Be prepared to wait, and you may need to ask more than one server for help in locating your order. I always give a place more than one chance, but Primanti's has disappointed on multiple occasions. At least the one on Oakland Park Blvd. It usually comes down to poor management. Sorry guys.

  • Very Good, but not Great Pt 2

    Review rating : 2out of 5   hfunsolmail - 03/26/2007

Part 2 (Part 1 is Next Review)

Next on tap was an Italian Sausage Sandwich with Peppers & Onions.(Sweet or Hot Sausage are options- and sauce and cheese are standard) and a Cheesteak Sandwich.

The bread on the sandwiches were hard from being overbaked in the oven after filled with the fillings. They added green peppers and a slightly peppery additive which made the Cheesteak meat taste like taco meat except that it was steak and not chopped meat. I ate the whole sub but did not care for it- nor would I recommend it.

The Sausage Pepper & Onions sandwich was delivered with sauce and cheese which we asked them to hold when ordered. It was sent back for a redo. In the meantime, my dining companion decided to take the redo home as she was full after the slice and calamari.

Around 11PM we reheated the sandwich to find that while they did omit the sauce, they still put on the unwanted cheese. Additionally we ordered the sweet sausage an the redo which we had at home had Hot Sausauge on it.

Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. We did decide to give them another try in the future for pizza ONLY, but we will ask them to hold the dry oregano an make the crust a little thinner for us.
