In a city notoriously lacking in quality seafood joints, this longstanding restaurant in Altamonte Springs has consistently done it right, getting their stock from suppliers who purchase the freshest catch from boats entering seaside ports and lakeside docks. More than 28 varieties -- from Maine lobster to Florida dolphin -- are served up in the tropically themed, and tightly packed, dining room. Signature items like the mesquite-grilled Florida black grouper (not blackened grouper) and the citrus-marinated Atlantic salmon have garnered national recognition, as well as praise from regulars who can't get enough of the ample fillets. The Maryland crab cakes are heavy on the meat and light on the filler and come with a creole mustard sauce, making this a meal in itself. Shrimp lovers will delight in the shrimp platter filled with grilled, scampi and golden-fried coconut varieties.

All entrees are served with mouthwatering homemade bread, cole slaw or salad, and your choice of potato or vegetable, so don't feel the need to fill up on appetizers. But if you absolutely positively feel the need for greed, the Cajun tuna tips are your best bet. For dessert with a Florida flair, the key lime pie is an obvious choice, but the velvety coconut cream pie is to die for.

Excellent food at a very reasonable price. The salad and bread are very good. They have a nice children's menu. The service is very good. It is one of our favorite places to eat because the food is consistently good.

This is the type of place you drive by and think "I should try that place" but end up going somewhere else. Well go with your first thought. I had the most wonderful meal there and the staff was so friendly and worked as a team instead of working in their designated areas only. I really hate it when I ask someone for a glass of water and they say "I'll let your waitress know." Not here. Oysters Rockefeller was abundant and absolutely devine. The salmon had a mild flavor with a touch of mesquite for a delicious meal but the best part was the Creme Brulee that made my mouth water just smelling it. Yes, the building is old but it is very clean and a nice relaxing atmosphere. Don't wait any longer....go to Straub's and have a great meal with the customer service you deserve.

  • Food excellent - Service OK - Atmosphere in need of improvement

I'm a regular and I think Straub's has the best Ahi Tuna I've ever eaten. The other menu items are also excellent. The fish is always fresh and deliciously prepared and presented. Unfortunately, lately, the service has gone downhill. And the building is in dire need of a facelift. Who would know they have a full-service bar if you didn't ask? They need to expand up, I suppose, because they certainly don't have room to expand out. Still, I would rate this an excellent restaurant for all seafood lovers. I wouldn't recommend for children under 10. Give it a try!

The food is really good and everything is fresh. Yes the building is old it has been a seafood restaurant for 24 years, and a barbeque place before that of course it smells like fish in there. what should it smell like? When you go to Outback it smells like grilled meat and fried onions. As for the kids menu I have kids and they love the food, but the restaurant is not not Chuckie Cheese and it is geared more towards adults and though they are happy to welcome children in their restaurant if you are looking for kids meals McDonalds is a kids favorite

I suppose you can call the fishy smell ambiance. And the food is good. It should be for the price. But there is no excuse for bad, really bad, service. Once we got our food (in a reasonable time, considering the crowd), it's as if our waiter fell in a black hole. Cajun mustard that he suggested never arrived. A refill on iced tea never came. We sat 15 minutes after we finished eating waiting to ask for a check and another ten to get the check paid. We're 20% tippers for service and even better for great service. We left 0.

It's fast-paced fun and excitement for all ages. It lets people explore a side of life they've never known themselves, but would like to know.
