City's Best

639 Pearl St
La Jolla, CA 92037

Orange County's laid-back taco chain began after three brothers -- who made surfing trips to Mexico -- missed the fish tacos when they returned. Walls, tables, windows and even bathrooms are laden with stickers like a giant skateboard and there is signed memorabilia (like Tony Hawk's skateboard) at each location. Starters include the tasty Maui onion rings and a spicy chicken tortilla soup, but it's the tacos -- fish, chicken, vegetarian or carne asada -- that draw the crowds. Ahi rice and white or black beans round out the meal (and your belly). For those with especially large appetites, the Banzai Burrito is a perfect match. Kids love the place because of the free stickers.

  • Wahoo's is way better the Rubio's

    Review rating : 5out of 5   Mackallbator - 07/27/2008

Wahoo's is so much better tasting and better for you than Rubio's! The only reason I can think that Rubio's is higher on the list is because there is more of them around! Wahoo's fish tacos and cheese enchiladas are the best!!

    Excellent for fast food -
I don't know about the La Jolla location, but the food and service at the the Sport's Arena location rock - The food is brought to you (unlike Rubio's format) and the food quality and quantity is twice that of Rubios - It is one of the very few fast-food restaurants I will eat at - Also, it has some vegan choices on the menu as well.

  • Rubio's knockoff

    Review rating : 1out of 5   cteal14 - 10/19/2004

Went back to La Jolla. Things have changed very quickly. Went here thinking that can't go wrong here. All this is a Rubio's knockoff. Nothing really special that would impress anyone. The food was bland and had no taste service was awful, and the people that where there are awful, stuck up people. I saw a old woman fall down out side and the family next to me sat there and laughed. I would not go there again.
