This may not be the place for a romantic first date, but families love it. Generous George's is kid heaven. Kids are treated like VIPs here, and the laughing din reflects it. Owner George Mansy started his namesake place in 1977, in what had been his parents' home and grocery store. It's a happy place, flamingo pink and lime green, with decor designed to please kids: hanging toys, smiling pizzas, even a painting of Mickey.
George's pizza crust is puffy, chewy and crispy all at once. It's such a hit that some pastas are served on it, too. Pizza toppings range from simple to wacky: Taco Cha Cha Ole, California Dreamin' and Positive Pineapple Pleasure. Personal pizzas are big hits, especially the combo. Pastas include Clamtastic with linguine, vegetarian lasagna and Pesto Mania, plus the usual meatball and red sauce versions. Speaking of which, the meatball hoagie is mouthwatering. -- Tracey E. We used to go here after softball games when I was 25 because you ate and drank well for a great price. They handled crowds of 25 at 9pm with ease.
Later (now) with kids, it's the only place where we can eat a decent meal, get a beer and relax because the kids want to be here. It doesn't have the omnipotent din or cafeteria odor of an arcade place (e.g. Chucky Cheese) or the one palate menu like Fuddrucker's.
How about a screen playing movies or old time cartoons?Outstanding
I have read the reviews of the folks who didn't get good service, and all I can say is that I have been dining here for years and have never experienced anything like what they describe! The food is amazing, and the prices are unparalleled in the metro area...seriously, the pizzas are as big as Rhode Island! Most of the folks who didn't like the meal or experience were probably looking for upscale dining...let's be realistic here, there are 20ft high wooden soldiers outside the front door, what do you expect inside?!? This place is awesome, no two ways about it!
Hard to get a better pizza anywhere on the East Coast
Great eatery, great people, and really cool place.
