It's hard to tell who's having more fun -- kids or their parents -- at this Amazon-themed restaurant at Downtown Disney. 'Smoke' billows from a looming volcano, jungle-sized butterflies flap their wings, and thunder rumbles in the distance to announce an impending downpour in the faux-rainforest surrounds. Waits can be long, especially during the high tourist season, but there's plenty to entertain the children as you wander the premises ogling the animatronic wildlife while waiting for your table.
Despite the tropical names on the menu, the fare is pretty much standard American. The Coastal Calamari, for example, is the classic preparation -- breaded, with marinara sauce. And the Volcanic Cobb Salad features all the usual ingredients (blue cheese, bacon, etc.) despite the fancy moniker. There's a range of good seafood dishes, including crab cake sandwiches, shrimp embrochette and fish 'n chips. And you'll never go wrong with a hearty burger or pizza. Portions are large, and kids are best off snagging some food off your plate or ordering from the kids menu, which features cheese sticks, grilled cheese sandwiches and other basic favorites. For something different, inquire about the guided safari -- a kid-friendly excursion through the restaurant's surrounds that's both educational and entertaining.

Gorgeous place, bad food
The atmosphere and service are always great. The inside creates a Disney-like rainforest feel, complete with animatronics, sound effects, and amazing lighting. The food, however, is only ok. Not great, not bad, but ok. Not one dish I have tasted has stood out as particularly tasty or inventive, and one or two were downright mediocre. Go for the decor, but not for the food.

Rainforest Cafe can get mixed reviews depending on what you are looking for. The thematic experience can be overwhelming with its rainforest decor, animatronic rainforest animals that grunt and squak and the occasional simulated thunderstorms. Tropical fish swim in glass tanks, and the store is full of tropical toys, clothing, and stuffed animals. The lines and wait can be very long, and the place crowded. The food is typical American cuisine, a bit pricey in my opinion for burgers, chicken, and salads. I thought most of the food sounded better than it actually tasted. Our kids loved the atmosphere, we felt the food was mediocre.
Love this place!
I have been eating at this place with my family for years! I have not been disappointed. The food is wonderful and the kids loved the waterfalls and volcanos. The gift shop is great with lots of affordable souviners! Would recommend it in a heartbeat!
burgers
good burgers, long wait (2 hours), one at animal kingdom is better. Don't expect to talk during the meal at all. The sound effects are louder than the real things
