Johnny Rockets was a resounding success when it burst onto the retro diner scene more than 17 years ago. Sure, there are plenty of appealing alternatives these days, but this spot still holds a special place in Jersey hearts. First of all, the burgers are awesome, and served dangerously rare upon request. The grilled chicken sandwich is another winner. The menu has very little that wouldn't tug at the heartsrings of anyone nostalgic for the heyday of comfort food. If the retro tunes don't drag you in off the street, then the checkerboard soda fountain feel will. And kids love it, but good luck limiting the outpouring of sodas, or explaining to your little ones that a chocolate peanut butter shake is no substitute for a meal. -- Lynn Levine

big letdown
I took the whole family here and there was no rocket. We even timed our trip to coincide with a NASA launch, but it wasn't even on the TeleVision. Why have rockets in the title, but no rockets. Should be called Johnny No Rockets. Food was decent.

I always hit up Johnny Rockets when I go to Garden State Plaza Mall in N.J. The food is okay but the entertainment is so funny. How can you pass up all those workers doing the YMCA...c'mon they are so cute!
you've got to be kidding
lousy burgers, sandwiches, not great service, etc. etc. Your friendly neighborhood diner would be a better choice. How it's on the list, defies logic.
Atmosphere
Johnny Rockets-The burgers and fries are what you'd expect from any family or casual dining place. A little greasy but in an endearing way. If your looking for someplace other than the Micky D's on the main drag, and a chance to show the kids what the old malt shop was like, this is the place. And it's location makes it feel more authentic than the ones in the mall food courts.Try a shake withn your sweetheart but use two straws. You'll feel just like your parents(or grandparents) in the 50's!
