Of all the storied institutions on Capitol Hill, the Tune Inn holds a special place in the hearts of a diverse crowd that includes movie stars (Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman), big-name politicians (Janet Reno), townies, Hill staffers and blue-collar workers. The cramped space on Pennsylvania Avenue SE housed one of the city's first bars after Prohibition and has been under the management of the same family -- the Nardellis -- since 1955. The walls of the one-room bar and diner welcome you with years' worth of trophy fish and animal heads from family hunting trips. You could easily be in a bar in West Virginia, rather than steps from the buttoned-up halls of the Capitol. The kitchen, which turns out simple-but-outstanding burgers along with their regular diner fare, feeds plenty of shift-workers seeking dinner at 9AM and a younger, late-night crowd seeking cheap beer and greasy food. The menu on the wall is an intern's delight. A handful of couch change will get you an excellent burger and some fries, and the sassy waitresses dole out friendly conversation free of charge.

best bar with the best staff on the hill...Matt, Ned, Curly, Susie, Mark and last but not least Rudy. This place has the best burgers and patty melt ever. Do not miss this one, you will come back!

Good food when sober, excellent when drunk. Kitchen stays open late.

Perhaps I'm the wrong one to review this place as I have been eating there since 1963. It helps to know who's in the kitchen, but the food is almost aways very good and well prepared. In the hundreds of times that I have eaten there, I could probably count 10 or 12 times that disappointed.

It is a little unusual to see the bar full at 8:30 in the morning on a Monday and serving drinks to Lawyers and Plumbers alike, but it is a most friendly crowd, if left to their own.

This place has become much more customer friendly lately, but I must admit that I miss Jenny who was the waitress with a mouth that would embarass most steel workers. Get to know her and she was your best friend.

If you ever find youself bleary eyed on a Sunday morning from too much party on Saturday night, order a Bloody Mary or two and order breakfast. You won't be sorry!

If you're looking for munchies at midnite after that party, forget it. You're not going to get in the place because everybody else beat you to it!

The food is always tasty, the portions are great, and the prices are incredilble.

If you're looking to eat on the cheap, this is definitely the place to go. With such great prices, you would think that the food and service is bad, but that's not the case at all. A first look around you would think that, but this place has got charm. While eating a tasty burger for lunch, I was asked by the waitress, bartender, and cook if my meal was ok. That doesn't happen that often in DC. The burgers are not 5 guys, but they do have burger specials two nights a week, and it's well worth the change.
