Before this bar was renovated, it used to be called the Allen Avenue Cafe. Now it is a Florida-themed restaurant and bar offering a tiki bar in the summer. The name ''shanti'' means ''peace'' in Sanskrit. Bands play here several nights a week, and Saturdays from 4-7PM it is always bluegrass. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the sun always shines on Shanti. Happy hour is also popular with the crowd at this Soulard staple. Jimmy Buffett might just love it.

elwoodbluz - 04/21/2005I love the Shanti! It is a great smokey dive and the music usually rocks. Plenty of diverse acts and great Tuesday night open mic. Dogs run around willy-nilly and the outdoor ping pong table is a great touch. Great patio for day or evening. A regular collection of junk reminicent of Fred Sanford's front yard. Don't miss this classic.
