What a menagerie of folk you can sight there on any given evening. Probably the best old fashion (non-internet) juke box and amazing selection of tunes in Soulard.
The two fat cats that lounge around on the naugahyde chairs can be intimidating if you're not a fan of cats (or the prevailing cat piss smell that comes with them), but if you can get past that you'll enjoy a large selection of very cheaply priced shots and AB products along with classic bar menu of TJ's Pizzas or the "Lay's Buffet'.
The shuffleboard table is the last one in Soulard that isn't destroyed, but it needs new pucks as the drunken bar lady was smashing them into the popped up fingers at mid-table and didn't realize she was knocking all of the crome off the pucks. Still, better than the hunk of junk up in the un-air-conditioned upstairs at Llewellyn's.
For some reason, a shot of Jameson's was priced at only $2 but the Jim Beam was priced at $3...Hell yeah!
Look for some scareful folk at the bar. These are the original bar flys and I wouldn't be surprised if Mickey Rourke didn't spend a month there studying his character. I sh*t you not...one of the patrons asked my friend to help him get his money in the juke because his hand was shaking so badly...what a hoot!
My vote for best dive in St. Louis! See you there.Full length Shuffle Board!
This dive is a mystery. Tucked away in Soulard facing I-55, you'll miss it unless you know where it is. That said, any bar with beef jerky and toaster oven pizza gets my vote. The crowd is kinda spooky but friendly enough. I'd put it on my pub crawl list just to get a laugh. Watch out for the full length shuffle board table. It's on a timer and you have to play fast or you're out of luck.
