It's a pleasant surprise walking into the Blarney Stone Pub in Clairemont (not to be confused with the plastic, yuppy Blarney Stone of Gaslamp). Despite the early-'80s strip-mall exterior, the interior of the Blarney Stone is warm, homey, vinyl-and-wood with a lingering odor that's not quite pleasant, but entirely familiar. It feels like a local bar, and it feels Irish. Not because of the standard cues of clover and football, but because of the whole package, including Irish bartenders and live Irish folk music as entertainment nearly every night of the week. Even those unlucky enough to be non-Irish can get chummy with the Gaelic regulars, and maybe even homesick for Cork.

The entertainment is superb and authentic. There is musical entertainment 6 times a week every week with live Irish music, starting at 8:00. The bartenders and the owner of the pub are extremely friendly. The guinness is about the closest in taste to the one in Ireland. All the other drinks are extremely tasty too. There are several parties during the year with great food and good people. St.Patrick's Day party is coming up. Listening to your cousin's band do covers Top-shelf liquor, great guinness. Live entertainment 6 times a week. Everybody is rubbing elbows with people from all walks of life. Blue and white collar making friends, listening to the great entertainment. After work I'm looking for a good time with live entertainment, medium loud music. I avoid loud jukeboxes and loud TV.
