City's Best

1306 E Carson St
Pittsburgh, PA 15203

As one of the city's hippest punk-rock clubhouses -- offering free live music, $2.50 Iron City pounders and one of the sickest punk jukeboxes in Pittsburgh -- it's no wonder Smiling Moose is a packed-to-overflowing sardine can on Friday and Saturday nights. During the week, it offers nothing if not a pleasant -- and colorful -- way to pass an evening. Tattooed regulars line the bar at all hours, and two golden retrievers can often be found snoozing on the tiled floor. The cavernous wood booths lining the front room are the prime place to take in the bar's aura, and what with horror movie collectibles lining the shelves and kitschy sports memorabilia tacked to every surface, there's a lot to look at. Like the rest of East Carson Street, however, the Moose truly shines on weekends. The skinheads, mods and rudeboys may seem intimidating to the uninitiated, but there's nothing to fear -- Smiling Moose is one of the happiest watering holes in town.

  • a great place to see live music and a great local bar in general

This is an absolutely great place to go see bands especially if you like to check out new music (see their website http://www.smiling-moose.com/). There is NEVER A COVER (more bars need to do this) and the drinks are cheap. The stage is set up in the back of the bar sideways so that if you like it really loud you can get up close but if you are in the front of the bar you don't get directly blasted by the band because you are at their left side. Even so, the place can be loud but its just that kind of bar.
If you are in already in the SouthSide (or in Pittsburgh for that matter) you should definitely check out this place
