McGlinchey's boasts some of the most famously taciturn bartenders in the city. In truth, they're a stubbornly resentful lot but somehow they come off as more amusing than annoying. With a large, square sit-around bar taking up most of the room, McGlinchey's serves inexpensive beer and offers many choices besides the lager, such as Boddington's, Stoudts and Flying Fish. Filled with the young and wasted, this is a place where strangers meet and greet, throw back a dozen drinks and then wake up next to each other. Nightlife-loving Philly locals have all put in time here; there's something undeniably appealing about a place filled with ghosts of happy hookups past. Don't be surprised if you spy the human equivalent of Barney Gumble (the perpetually-drunk guy from 'The Simpsons') perched precariously on one of the barstools.

Not even worth one star
This place is gross. You basically stick to everything once you walk in the front door. The glass wear was not clean, the server carried beer bottles in her armpit then served them, and the bartenders looked as if they had not showered in a week. If you can get past all the smoke in the air, (due to lack of any ventalation) then the drinks are cheap...BUT you get what you pay for.

This bar still lets anyone and everyone smoke inside.
I recently went there after work on a friday, and had to leave after about 20 minutes because I couldn't breathe.
I also spent that entire time waiting for service.(which never came)
Spend your money somewhere else.good place to unwind
Laid back atmosphere, cheap drinks, good crowd...best place to relax after work...go at least once a week
Wouldn't recomend it
My group really had a poor experience here. We were visiting Philly from the midwest and were referred to this place for cheap drinks and a good crowd. When we (group of 6) arrived, three sat down in a booth, while three went to get drinks. The waitress promptly went up to the people at the table and said, "If you aren't going to drink, you can't sit here." Slightly upsetting, since we had literally just arrived. So our group vacated the table to stand next to the bar. We all ordered drinks, and then the waitress was upset because we were in the space that she uses, and they kicked four of us out of the bar. No warnings, no asking to move, just snatching our beers and making us leave. I and another of our party were at the bar, drinking the two beers we just ordered, while this was occuring. After our friends left, the waitress went up to the bartender and said, "Watch these two, they were with all those others, and probably should be kicked out." I said, "what are you talking about."
"Don't get mouthy with me."
"What do you mean, I haven't even talked to you."
Then the bartender grabed my beer and told me to leave. Unbelievable. I truly never experienced anything like this before. The staff was very negative toward us from the minute we walked in the door. Perhaps we were slightly intoxicated, but certainly were not beligerent or obnoxious. I would avoid this bar and go to a place with more pleasant staff.just great
It was a good bar the bartenders weren't rude at all they did what they had to,to run a bar. My boyfriend and I were there from Miami,fl and it was great we were able to get 5 or 6 drinks and shot for less then $15
