Like most bars in Orange County, the Sandpiper's popularity fluctuates with the seasons. Sometimes this bar can be immensely popular with lines to get in down the block, and then the crowds disperse and the room is filled with regulars who biked in on their beach cruisers. There's not much to look at by way of decor: This bar is an unpretentious little seaside pub complete with a subtle beach theme. Its quaintness and hospitality lend a touristy feeling, but that's because the staff is gregarious and inviting to a fault. Mid-week at the Sandpiper is usually reserved for local acts, mostly reggae and world beat stuff -- nothing groundbreaking, just music to sway your hips to. The weekends are a grab bag though: One minute, you're wondering if the place closed early, the next minute, it's like the OC version of Studio 54.
