You've got to love a bar that has its own hockey team, which the Lantern does; this is a divey place for jocks, Devils worshippers, and wish-they-weres just aching in the wings for the call to try out for ESPN's 'Dream Job.' Or for the party gals who dig that vibe. What do you drink here? Cheap beer, lots and lots of it. What do you listen to? Well, with live bands ranging from Screaming Nudes to Plastic Army Men to Pretty Suicide, let's just say that you don't walk into the place expecting songs sung sotto voce and the mullet isn't necessarily out of style here yet. The Lantern absolutely succeeds at being just what it is: a class boundary-destroying place for the Paramus masses to blow off steam after-hours. In fact, it's been serving that useful function for more than 70 years. Just be sure you dress appropriately. Dress code? Nahhhhh. What we're saying is, don't even think of wearing a Patriots or Bruins hat, is all.

OL NEVER CHANGES
cor63 - 06/15/2006I am 43 and haven't been to the OL in over 10 years but it's great to see by the editors comments that it hasn't changed at all. It funny because when younger people ask me where they should go for some fun and not worry about anything but throwing back a few beers I always steer them to the OL.

lrizzo19 - 06/10/2004Its a place where the SAME PEOPLE are there day in day out, night in , night out. Go there for 2 weekends in a row and you will see the same people. Its a local watering hole, but thats about it. Once in a while they do have a decent cover band.
