Ed's Tavernsimilar businesses >

From the road, Ed's looks like a prefab vinyl palace for all-day drinking, where pickup trucks roll in and line up four-wide in the expansive parking lot -- even on a Sunday morning -- to begin the hard work of tippling. Heck, this could be some tavern in Kansas, save for the suburbia surrounding it. But that actually gives you a clue to its origins: Back in '35, Ed and Matilda Wilczynski bought a tailor shop in the middle of nowhere (this was farm country at the time), bought a liquor license, and made it over into a public drinking house. And there the Wilczynskis stayed, for more than a half-decade. "Uncle" Ed passed away in 2002, in his 90s, but even toward the end of his life he'd still show up at his bar for a Jack Daniels and a cigar. So do lot of other people around here: The owners claim it's the oldest continuing operating business in town, and it's definitely a community center, sponsoring softball teams and bus trips, raising funds for children's hospitals, hosting promotions like weekly darts nights and something called he "Month of Fury."

This quaint place still serves beer at reasonable (extremely) prices. The bar is full of everything from town locals, College age drinkers, oldtimers, and even the occasinial pub crawl. Always some sport on the televisions throughout the tavern. This old fashioned place is realy where "New Friends Meet". One of the few family owned pubs left.
