To adapt the lyrics of the Captain and Tenille, Davey's is a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll. To see the country influence, just look at who's graced the stage over the years: Alejandro Escovedo, Jack Ingram, Dale Watson, Wayne "The Train" Hancock, the Derailers, Slobberbone and Eleni Mandel. The list goes (way) on. For indie-label country and alt-country acts, Davey's is the supreme venue in K.C.

The rock factor is in the clientele. No other watering hole in town draws the punk, alternative and rockabilly crowd like Davey's. Wading through the long, dim bar you'll see more vintage gaberdine shirts, fifties cocktail dresses and greasy truckers caps than at your average thrift store. Davey's itself has an equally retro feel. The shabby midtown building has been serving booze since the 1930s, and the interior retains all the trappings of a working-class WWII-era tavern: grimy linoleum floor, cracked leather booths, low roof and whirring ceiling fans. The 16 draft beers are available by the glass or pitcher, and a separate, darkened pool room provides a quiet spot for billiards or an illicit tryst.

Michelle does a kick butt job of running Davey's and bringing KC great music. Grant it is a dive and hole in the wall but that is what makes the place great!

She has done a great job of connecting with all different genres of music that make it a comfortable place to come to in KC. However, it get's to be a bit smokey, but overall a comfortable spot to see live music in Kansas City.
