At first glance, the Chuggin' Monkey looks as if it might be the kind of bar that has drawn the ire of locals for years along Sixth Street. Tight accommodations and loud music accompany the sweating throng of mostly young students trying to stuff their way inside for a peek. And then there's the name. But once inside, you find the Chuggin' Monkey to be spacious with a bar that's accessible. The drinks don't cost an arm and a leg and there's the back lanai, which allows you to escape the crowd and have a quiet drink or two with friends out at a booth or table on the patio. It's very nice, and a lot more adult than you'd expect at first glance. The clientele is varied, and the staff friendly. It's a lot hipper than a place called the Chuggin' Monkey deserves to be. -- Mike D'Alonzo
