A leisurely evening at this rustic, rough-hewn cottage has fast become an Uptown dining tradition. From the hand-lettered sign outside the front door to the painted ceramic plates that line the walls, the restaurant glows with the burnish of the creative personal touch. That touch extends to the homey yet innovative cuisine that emerges from Dick Benz's kitchen. Arrive prepared for a bustling, cheery atmosphere and unfussy, delicious food; but arrive prepared to wait -- this is a take-no-reservations joint. Many believe that Dick's fried oysters, gumbo, crab cakes, tournedos and sweetbreads -- along with Jenny's homespun dining room -- are worth the extended time one can spend chatting 'round the patio out back until a table opens.
The 'no reservations' policy can result in some extended evenings, but aficionados don't seem to mind --especially when steak arrives with a 'side' of short ribs. The warm artichoke-crab dip is an excellent starter, the brisket (braised for five hours) a favorite entree and lemon crepes the perfect finish. There is also an extensive children's menu. Dick & Jenny's is wholesome and homey down to the last detail. -- Michaela Morrissey

I come to Nawlins every year. I found this place last yer. It was wonderful! I raved about it all year. I couldn't wait to return this year. Well, this year they have changed the entire menu. Had a real hard time finding something to order, Last year it was heavy on seafood. This year it was short on seafood. The salads last year rocked, this year they were Ho-Hum. The service couldn't have been better. Our waiter was just the best, and couldn't do enough for us...but it didn't makeup for the lackluster food we got this year. I hope next year is better...that is if I can get my wife to go next year.
By Far the Best in New Orleans
Dick & Jenny's is my most favorite restaurant. Their female bartender makes the best lemon drop martini I've ever had and actually checks the glasses for cleanliness before using and makes sure when she serves two glasses of wine, that they're both even. I've been to other restaurants that have given me half a glass of wine and my husband three quarters. I don't eat meat but every seafood dish I've ordered there (and I've eaten here quite a bit) has been spectacular, top notch. Atmosphere is dim, romantic and casual. Everyone is friendly. Guess where I'm going to dinner on new years eve?
