The bright colors and cheerful awning of Cafe 1912 add a European touch to midtown Memphis' revitalized Cooper-Young area. Vibrant with shops, bars and galleries, the neighborhood is the perfect setting for this casual, welcoming bistro. Bright blond furnishings, complemented with touches of electric blue upholstery, make the atmosphere simple but elegant. An open, high-ceilinged dining room and a view of the kitchen area ensure a lively buzz.
Count on finding appetizers such as French onion soup with Gruyere toast or Tuscan bean soup with pancetta and orzo. Vegetarians will enjoy a wealth of offerings as well, from nouvelle salads to shiitake mushrooms. For others, deciding between crepes, a succulent pork tenderloin, a strip steak complemented with bearnaise sauce or duck confit will be a difficult task. All entrees come with a generous order of pommes frites (french fries). The menu groups wines, appetizers and desserts by price, which makes ordering a little easier. -- Beth Hoople

Appropriately "dated"
Primitive, stale effort in a bad part of town. I agree with the below review ! Just "fair" at best.

I recently had occasion to visit the Cafe 1912. Not being from Memphis, I read the write up on digitalcity and was excited. When we arrived, I drove right past it...I guess I was expecting more. It is in a rundown neighborhood, and the building fits in nicely. It is tired looking and on the shabby side. Inside isn't much better. It was clean, but no character and sparsely furnished. We went on a Sunday nite about 5:30 pm. It wasn't busy at all, yet we were told that they were all out of the scallop special. However, they were able to scrape one more together for us. It consisted of 3 scallops and a dollop of couscous for $22. A bit pricey for the restaurant I felt. We all left hungry as the portions are not large at all. All in all I could have skipped this one and been better off.
