This Hungarian bakery has been around for over 40 years -- for proof, check out the black-and-white photo behind the counter, a micro-replica of the place as it was then and evidence of the timelessness of Lucy's Old World charm. Strudels, cakes, pies and tea biscuits are among the buttery diet wreckers to be found here. Try the dobos torte, with multiple light layers and rich caramelized frosting. The windows of Lucy's gingerbread storefront are decorated with antique cookie jars, and while there are a few small tables inside where patrons can enjoy the famous pastries (and coffee from the local Kokopelli coffeehouse), most folks stop in to take the treasures home or to celebrate a very special occasion. Lucy's also ships to anywhere in the U.S., for those interested in sending pastries to friends, loved ones or people who write about restaurants (hint, hint).

Great Strudel BUT......
Lucy's is renowned for their great strudel. Since I was a kid I remember what a treat it was to have Lucy's flaky apple and cherry delicacies I just don't understand what the draw is for buying anything else there however. I went in the shop a few weeks ago and found that it was a dingy little space with a very skimpy selection of unatractive looking pastries. I bought my strudel which was displayed on the top of counter wrapped in plastic wrap. I'm not sure it really was worth the trip to Buckeye just to buy strudel. I know Lucy's is an institution in this city, but what's the big deal anymore?.. Is it just a faded memory of what "was"?

My business has used Lucy's on several occasions and I've always been happy with the service. Always friendly and willing to help. Their bakery is unbelievable and everyone will remember it!

We always buy "Lucy's Pastries" at the North Union Farmers Market, held on Saturdays, May thru Nov. 8am to Noon, on Shaker Square. They are simply.......WONDERFUL.
Michael and his wife work very hard, and have a great following at the Farmers Market, and their bakery is also very wonderful....they use real ingredients......ummmmmm. try them, you will love them. There is nothing like their bakery anymore.....everything else is so generic.
