The smell of wood-burning barbecue on Wisconsin Avenue pulls you to the door. Once inside, Rocklands is barbecue through and through. The menu focuses on four primary entrees: barbecue pork spare ribs, baby-back ribs, beef ribs and barbecue chicken. But to the delight of vegetarians, the grilled fish and grilled vegetable entrees make good use of the red oak and hickory wood stove. There are plenty of the standard barbecue side dishes -- mashed potatoes, barbecue beans, coleslaw and potato salad -- all made fresh with Rocklands' hickory-flavored flair.
Mostly a takeout joint, Rocklands includes some counter seating for about a dozen eat-in customers. While you're waiting for your order, keep yourself entertained with the bowls of unshelled roasted peanuts and the two "walls of fire" (one with gourmet hot sauces to try and the other with sauces to buy). Considered by many as a Cathedral neighborhood fixture, Rocklands is equally popular for its catering.

Rocklands Rocks!
NanciPlants282 - 06/10/2008Menu variety is terrific and changew often enough to bring you back to see what's new. Catering services are excellent for a large of small affair. Food arrives hot and on time, staffing is competent and knowledgable.

Thomandy20 - 06/06/2008Barbeque was good but cole slaw was worst I've ever had in a BBQ joint!! and way overpriced!! $2.49 for a thimble-full is outrageous! Service unimpressive at best-will probably skip in the future.

Unbelievably Bad Service
beriss - 05/03/2007I cannot speak for the food, they never gave me any. It may be great if you have more then an hour to wait. I called ahead for pickup and was told it would be ready in 20-30 minutes. I got in 25 minutes later paid and asked if my order was ready. They said a cheeseburger was not yet ready. I asked again 10 minutes later and they said it was still not ready and then I saw them put it on the grill. When it they took it off the grill (about 15 minutes later) they could not find my ribs. After another 10 minutes I finally spoke to the manager who asked what I ordered and then turned to the cook to ask him to start cooking it. At that point, I asked for my money back and left. Obviously, lots of people love the food but they have idiots running the place.
