DC's young and stylish, yet budget-conscious, diners pack into this casual and bustling eatery. Located a block from Dupont Circle, Luna Grill and Diner always seems to have a lunchtime line of five or more people patiently waiting to squeeze into one of the tables. The reward for the wait, and the tight fit, is a menu that is both eclectic and comforting.
Want a burger or meat loaf? They're here. But so are a number of wraps and meat-free choices. Since the dishes are generous in portion and prepared without unnecessary frills, you might think that Luna is also skimping in the kitchen. But, that thought is dispelled once you've tasted the steaming cup of tomato soup, tasting of real cream and hinting at basil, or the turkey with mashed potatoes and stuffing. The salads are fairly predictable, but the produce is fresh. Specials crowd the menu: You can get the pasta dishes at half-price on Sundays and Mondays, and each day there are both blue plate and green plate specials. (Blue plates are for carnivores, and the green plates are for vegetarians.) -- Elisabeth Frater

Less and Less every time
Once used to be a top choice but now has taken a quick down fall. Diner favorites taken off menu(Ex. cheese sticks) and other favorites.
Add CommentGreat turkey and mashed potato
I have been there 3 times now. I have an attorney in Dupont Circle and whenever I go there I sometimes go to Luna Grill afterwards. I love their turkey and mashed potatoes, but I have also had the veggie wrap. With both dishes I was presently surprised. One silly thing is if you go to the bathroom there is writing on the wall which was very interesting. I would recommend this place totally.
so delicious!
I live in the city now and I discovered Luna Grill about a month ago. After biting into a fresh turkey wrap with a side of french fries (which are natural and taste light) and then finishing off my meal with a warm peach cobbler topped with real vanilla bean ice cream- I've been going there twice a week ever since!
Go to Luna for great comfort food at a bargain. The produce is all from an organic farm too. The menu has so many options so even picky eaters can find something they like. The menu is also very flexible- you can create your own pastas, there are specials every weekday, and there are plenty of sides to choose from. For the meat eaters I would recommend the open faced turkey. A good veggie option is the taco salad or veggie panini on grilled chiabata bread. If you plan to go for breakfast (which they serve all day) I would get the ranchero breakfast burrito or the eggs norway (prepared with smoked salmon).
The owner of Luna also owns Mimi's American Bistro in Dupont Circle as well as another one of my personal favorites- Busboys and Poets on 14th and U. I highly recommend Busboys and Poets (cheap food, free wifi, fun atmosphere).Good mashed potatoes
A very good turkey and mashed potatoes plate. The service was also good.
Cold
The food was not bad, but the awful service ruiened my experience at the Luna Grill. The waiter was very unattentive, and never checked our table. And then at the end of dinner he had the nerve to ask how much of a tip we were going to leave. I've never recieved such awful service in my life. I will never go there again!

I was very impressed with the portions and the prices not to mention it tasted great. Taco salad was a good vegetarian dish. The wraps are also tasty.

Everything is good; my only concern is that they could be more careful in keeping the kitchen clean for safe food preparation to avoid food contamination which can be hazarous to the customers health.

The food is marvelous --and the owner contributes annually to our Kalorama Citizens Assn. fund raiser for neighborhood elementary schools. Four stars for the ambience, food and service. And a big, bright fifth for giving a damn!
Jesscroth's Review

Luna has the BEST breakfast in all of DC. Their special omelets are to die for. Service on Sunday mornings (in Shirlington) can be a bit slow, but that is the only drawback.
