  • FANTASTIC FOOD

    Review rating : 5out of 5   JOSEPHCAPPETTA - 08/15/2008

Just went there for the first time tonight while vacationing. My family and I loved it. The food and service was excellent. The atmosphere was unique, but not too crazy. Every one is right when they say save room for dessert, they are rich and large. One more thing, it was resturant week in D.C., so we saved money on the three coarse specials. We will deffinately dine here again.

  • Repeat Customer

I'd like to say I've been dining here for over 15 years and I'm not quite sure where these people ate that trashed the place but I have NEVER had service in the numerous times I've been there for dinner that even comes close to the type of experience they are speaking about. It's the freshest pasta I've ever had and the best prepared and the service has always been perfect. Or, these people may be one of those customers the waiters have told us about who steal the decorations off of the 15 Christmas tree they have every year. Just think about it, would the elite of DC, including Presidents, repeatedly dine there if it were that bad? I think not. All I can say is that my probably 50 or more times have been great and I am accustomed to dining and out for dating and business alot. Don't be scared off - go and have a wonderful evening.

  • Olive Garden is better...

    Review rating : 1out of 5   aurelia8824 - 08/14/2007

The worst excuse for Italian food I’ve ever had.

DO come here if you prefer watered-down Italian food that is more American than Italian.

The service was horrible. Our server wasn’t familiar with the menu, brought our check before we asked for it – while we were still finishing dessert – and wasn’t pleasant; to say the least.

I am highly disappointed. If you want REAL Italian food, don’t bother, but if you call tomato sauce “gravy” then you should be very happy here.

  • Horrible Service

    Review rating : 3out of 5   dlsjh2 - 07/16/2007

We were seated at a small table next to lattice right outside the kitchen entrance. So needless to say, wait staff were passing our table continually. Despite this, we waited fifteen minutes before anyone came to our table. A nice woman took our order and I later learned that she wasn't even our waitress. The food was good, but not out of the ordinary. I'm sure the poor service tainted our taste buds. When I brought this issue to the attention of the manager, his solution was to be sure our next visit was better. That opportunity will never present itself because there are entirely too many fabulous restaurants in D.C. with exceptional service! The manager also claimed that the seat just ourside the kitchen door was the most requested seat in the house - yeah right!!!

  • Amazing

Having been to Italy several times, this resturant is the closest "real" Italian food I've had in the states. I go there everytime I have a guest in from out of town, or if I'm celebrating anything from a birthday to a raise. Great food! Service is great! It can get backed up sometimes, but what resturant doesn't? Also at times it can get loud, but when you get a big group of people together what do you expect? I would highly recommend this resturant to anyone seeking amazing Italian food and great service. The only thing I don't like about Filomenas is getting there, sometimes traffic can be a nightmare, but that's DC for you.

  • Amazing Food, average service

    Review rating : 5out of 5   hindumanrn - 02/27/2007

My girlfriend and I have a tradition of going to Filomena's every Valentines Day, and we've had an excellent time every time we've went.

The food is downright fantastic. I've eaten at most of the other italian restaurants Washington DC has to offer, and none of them come close to the cuisine at Filomena's. The Ravioli there is outstanding, as is almost all the seafood dishes and sauces.

However, I've had luke-warm experiences with the service. On a busy night, you may still have to wait a bit, even with a reservations. Some waiters there are outstanding, and some leave alot to be desired.

I'm not someone who dwells on the service unless its noteworthy (in either direction). If you have great company - especially a date - there's no way you can go wrong with this restaurant.

  • Over priced

    Review rating : 3out of 5   oncall607 - 02/12/2007

The food was good, the service was below avergage, and the dining room was very good. As far as Italian food goes, I have certainly enjoyed more authetinc fare at a fraction of the price.

  • Authentic Italian hospitality

When I want to treat myself, I always make Filomena’s a part of my evening. The generous portions satisfy any appetite, and the desserts are phenomenal! It’s a place I can take a group of friends and KNOW we’ll have a great time, from enjoying the décor (especially around any holidays!), the extremely attentive wait staff, and you can’t beat complimentary Sambucca & Amaretto after dinner! Just realize that reservations are a must, and still you might find yourself with an average wait on the weekends.
