Set on the edge of the busy St. Mary's strip, Candlelight can be relied upon in the evening for a quieter, more toned-down date setting. It masquerades as a coffee joint, but don't let the name fool you. This place serves as a bar and restaurant as well, though the menu is limited. You can't go wrong with the gourmet teas and coffees, or the wine list and atmosphere. Soups, salads and sandwiches are available to snack on, and there's a lush patio for those who simply want to gab or muse outdoors. Once upon a time, Candlelight served as a venue for jazz, but these days it's mostly a meeting place for an older set and the stylish after-work crowd. Just goes to show, regulars stick with what works -- and in this case, it's a good cup of coffee and the opportunity to unwind in a comfy setting. -- A. Onofre

They steal tips from their employees!
KraMintx - 03/03/2009I was recently informed that when you leave a credit card tip for the waiter that the owners keep the money, the only way the waiter gets the tip is if you leave it CASH.... this is illegal! For being such a nice place why must the owners be so greedy?

Funrun35 - 07/24/2008The coffee was warm, even after I mentioned it to the staff, the food was just okay, and the service was very poor. Still, they had the gall to add a 20% gratuity to the bill. A 20% gratuity should be earned, not assumed. On top of that, the music was so loud, we could not converse.

Vangard10 - 07/12/2008Very nice setting. Friendly staff. Great for coffee, even better for wine after the Majestic. My only complaint is that they only score fair on the brunch on Sunday. WAY overpriced for what you get. Still....not bad, not bad at all.
Unique little cafe
nellson66 - 01/21/2005This is one of my favorite places in San Antonio. The atmosphere is as warm as the people there are friendly. Dim lights and big couches make it a perfect setting for a good conversion. They have a great wine list and a nice food menu as well. I've really enjoyed every experience I've had here.
