City's Best

795 S 3rd St
Philadelphia, PA 19147

Dimitri's operates on a simple premise: Grill it and they will come. From the pita bread to the whole fish, just about everything gets plopped on the grill. Even after all the years of success you still can't beat the prices of the city's favorite BYOB. It gets crowded early -- even before opening, a line of patrons waits at the door. The open kitchen is right up front of this modest-sized restaurant. Dmitri's is ideal for groups of four carrying a couple bottles of wine and lots of cash (the eatery doesn't take credit cards). Platter sharing is the order of the day and makes for a fun and festive evening. Plates of grilled octopus, squid, big chunks of feta and a pile of olives, and a fish to share, are served with simple flavorings of lemon, olive oil and vinegar. Portions are generous; even the avocado and citrus salad can fill most stomachs. The second Dmitri's, at 23rd and Pine, is larger, less crowded, has a bar and the same menu, but with its more "proper" decor misses some of the crazy energy of the original.

We love eating at this restaurant. Food is always fresh, plentiful, and never skimpy.

I have been eating at dmitris for over 7-8 years now and can honestly say it is the best seafood handsdown I have ever had. OK, sometimes they have an off night, but that does not stop my husband and i from sitting at the counter sharing a bottle of wine and admiring how the food is made. We have been all over the US and Medditeranian and definitly agree it is the freshest and tastiest seafood on earth!!! P.S. get the scampi with a side of feta!!! perfect together!
