While the competition for the best French restaurant in the area is fearsome, this David Wilhelm masterpiece is definitely in the running. Modeled after a Parisian bistro from the fashionable Bohemian era (post World War II), the decor features colorful wall art, gleaming hardwood furnishings and leather booths. Several different dining rooms and a special champagne bar are housed in a pretty European cottage.
The regular menu offers a selection of tempting small plates and "Bistro Classic" entrees. It is revised from time to time, but you can usually count on finding standbys such as French onion soup topped with Gruyere cheese, oysters on the half shell, chicken Dijon, grilled lamb or pork, and pan-seared steak with frites. Top-quality ingredients and attention to detail elevate the straightforward, time-honored recipes to gourmet status. While everyone has their own favorite among the entrees and appetizers, the glorious chocolate souffle is the hands-down winner when it comes time for dessert.

Excellent!
My husband and I went there for the 1st time in May to celebrate our 5th anniversary and we loved it! Our waiter was so helpful and attentive and the food and ambience were wonderful. I had the beef stroganoff and LOVED it and my husband had rack of lamb and said it was the best he's ever had. It made for a very romantic anniversary dinner!

After reading the other reviews, I was hesitant to go here, but the others in my party wanted to go. The service was outstanding - very polite and attentive waiter (Claude), very kind about cooling and serving the cake we'd brought from an outside bakery, etc. The food was lovely - I am not a fan of French food, so I had their hamburger. Actually, it was quite good! I recommend the pommes frite, and skip the garlic parmesan chips. And we all enjoyed the sides of butternut squash and creamed corn.
My only complaints - the volume of the music, and the darkness of the table area. We were there for a 70th birthday, but only found out after dinner that there is a quieter upstairs dining room where the live music is not piped in. We had dined about 20 feet from the piano, and while the music was good, it made conversation difficult. As for the lighting, three of the four of us needed the light from our cell phones to read the menu - and this was while it was still light outside!
Overall, I would dine there again, giving the upstairs room a try for a quiet dinner, or planning to enjoy the live music.Exquisite
Our favorite place in So Calif. Romantic ! Sitting at the bar and enjoying a glass of Port or Champagne, to a romantic interlude at a quiet table, enjoying the lusciousness of the food and ambiance. Not for those counting their pennies however :) We rate it EXQUISITE ! Bar None
Horrible Experience
Mediocre food at best. Ordered signature drink at bar, bad mistake. Worst French 75 I've ever had, tasted like Champagne with lime juice. Appetizers came out cold, but couldn't have eaten them right away anyway because we had no silverware! Sommelier was non-existent after ordering most expensive bottle on list; a bottle he didn't bother to decant even though it was 10 years old. Server decided to tell me my entree was sold out after having already eaten my first two courses. And their chocolate souffle was simply bad. Never going there again.
