The latest addition to the burgeoning neighborhood around the South Side Lofts on Lamar Street is definitely a welcome one. Just a block from the Dallas Convention Center, chef Doug Brown's Amuse, (named from the French amuse-bouche -- a small appetizer given to diners upon their arrival) is an extension of his highly successful catering business, Beyond the Box. His restaurant and lounge is super-sleek and highly chic with modern red and white sofas set beneath eye-catching abstract paintings. The booths sport smooth, jet-black banquette seating and sparkling stemware ready to be filled with a nice selection of wine. The menu is bistro-eclectic and offers entrees like orange balsamic-roasted chicken, bleu cheese fried chicken and cider-marinated pork chops. As if that weren't enough, Brown has also included patio dining with an exceptional view of the sparkling downtown Dallas skyline. Go see what the skyline looks like from the South Side! DJs spin on the weekends.

Upon our arrival at about 9:15 on a Monday night the hostess/servers went into a brief debate to determine who would have to serve us. After then being ignored for about 10 minutes (I thought they were in a hurry to get out of there) we orderd. About the food - the soup was extremely salty and none of the three of us wanted to eat it...the chorizo mash was so overseasoned/spiced with chili none of the three of us....you get the idea....the risotto cakes were awful and none of us......the flank steak caesar salad with teardrop tomatoes (love them, but what are they doing here), raw onion, bacon bits etc....the only thing caesar about it was it was made with romaine lettuce, still not sure what the dressing was...anyway, I'd rather not go on.....
