641 N High St # 101
Columbus, OH 43215

With maroon walls, touches of dark red wood, and an excellent selection of wines of all colors, this eatery lives up to its title. Subtle, flattering lighting; a two-sided fireplace; nifty curved Art Deco booths; and window-side tables for a lucky few who can simultaneously snuggle and people-watch add a patina of glamour and sophistication rarely found in Columbus. Tapas-sized portions are varied and tasty and are divided into cold and hot items. (If you're on a date, you might want to stick with these, since they're perfect for sharing.) Among the former are chilled peach soup; arugula salad with mushrooms, fried potatoes and goat cheese; tuna tartare with soy wasabi vinaigrette; and crostini with poached spinach, eggplant caviar and roasted tomatoes. Manhattan clam chowder -- rarely if ever served in Columbus (it's mostly the oh-so-creamy/heavy New England stuff) -- headlines the warm offerings which also include steamed mussels in white wine broth, seared prime rib and maple glazed wings, to mention but a few. Portions are European-sized so big eaters might order three entrees, while two would satisfy moderate appetites.

This place closed 6 months ago. My uncle bought the space and is buildiing a new family oriented restaurant/bar. He owns Brazenhead, Tuccis, and Oscars, and Barnum&Tibbets
