City's Best

Cleveland, OH 44113

The sign on the door of Velvet Tango Room warns patrons against entering with golf shoes on. And while there's nary a golf course around for miles -- unless you count the two-hole putting green on the place's spectacular patio, which offers a view of the city skyline -- there is, however, a country-club atmosphere at the Velvet Tango. This smallish Ohio City bar is your typical neighborhood bar with a private room in the back which you can only entire if you know the password (just rent the space and they'll tell you). It's quiet for the most part, with live jazz emanating periodically from a piano at the far end of the bar. Known for its knowledgeable bartenders and rarified drink selection, the Velvet Tango Room is for the older crowd rather than rowdy hipsters looking for a hangout. Head to the patio when you get here: There nothing like enjoying live jazz music while you take in a beautiful view.

Can you even really call the VTR a bar? That would be like calling the Waldorf Astoria a motel or Buckingham palace a cottage. It is almost more art then bartending that goes on here. You will not see anything going into your drink that comes out of a hose. Even the fresh juices are not squeezed before hand. They are placed directly into your drink. The best jazz in town and a secret back room along with a putting green on the back patio. Some drinks take over three minutes to make and cost $15.00 and once you taste them it will seem like the best bargain you have come across that month. It is simply that good.

Paul hit the nail on the head when he built this bar from scratch 15 years ago. Always a good time.

Very classy joint, and I emphasise the word "joint". Very small and ULTRA EXPENSIVE for a neighborhood bar. One shot of 16 yr old single malt "Pinch" scotch and a chocolate martini set me back $28.00 plus a $6.00 tip!!!!!!

The establishment is in a class all of its own, indeed it is a "diamond in the rough". A classy, pleasant and friendly enviroment with with a cast of employee's surpassed by none. ****

Very classy, off the beaten path. Great romantic after dinner lounge. Very small though.
