It makes perfect sense that the television at the Grovewood Tavern and Wine Bar is often tuned to the History Channel and not an arbitrary hockey game, for instance. Sure, it looks like a regular bar, from the customers sitting on stools, hunched over their drinks, to the bartender darting back and forth to take an order. But look closer at this far Eastside bar and you'll see that's a glass of wine, not a bottle of beer. Choose from close to 150 wines by glass or by the bottle, ranging every taste, color and country. The warm, wooden decor helps set the tone for the relaxed atmosphere in the bar area, where another's conversation rarely drowns out your own. A one-man kitchen nestled between the bar and the front door hustles out dishes as diverse as meatloaf Napoleon, chicken paprikash and an impressive selection of yakatoris. The cuisine earned the Taste of Cleveland 2002 People's Choice Award. Not quite yet the wine connoisseur? The Grovewood hosts tastings every Wednesday and Thursday at 8:30PM. Don't want to be a connoisseur? Despite the focus on wine, the Grovewood features a stocked bar and fine beer selection.
