This nightspot's raison d'etre, "Sophistication with a dash of naughtiness," comes delivered with a decidedly European, cosmopolitan and youthful take on New Orleans club culture. It's located in the former headquarters of the Whitney, a stylish local banking institution, and carries that feeling of moneyed elegance forward. Ampersand also manages to work in two huge floors, a courtyard, a large dance floor and several plush sitting rooms. Rumor has it that the most exclusive of these actually resides in what once was the bank's vault. Thursday is spoken word-poetry night and also ladies' night. Fridays feature the most progressive dance sounds; the best local DJs rotate shifts here, and the club describes their mix as ''three parts hip-hop to one part techno.'' The service is quite friendly for such a chichi establishment. It was actually classy enough to have been featured in GQ magazine and on In Style magazine's list of the ''seven hottest clubs in seven hottest cities.

racattacksco - 07/08/2008So all of you who have insulted the owner of "&" obvioulsly do not understand that this is not a club owner popularity contest...
By far Ampersand is the best club in New Orleans....notice I said club, not bar with dance music. If the waiting in a line to get in bothers you, if you feel $10 is too much for a drink and if you feel the crowd is snotty please do not ever venture into the club scenes of Miami, L.A. or NYC. (too bad for you Kenny's Key West has closed....)
Yes the crowds can get a bit thick but so what...
If you can not recognize the talent that spins, whether as a guest or resident, maybe you are looking for something other than what Ampersand has to offer.

alexiscris - 08/30/2007Hands down one of the best clubs I have ever been to from Texas to Florida. Not just because I am from this great state but because it was one of the top 100 bars in the US 5 years in a row! Crawling with beautiful people anytime of year, Ampersands has been home to some of the best electronic DJ's from the genres of house and break beats. Great drinks, hot bartenders, hot patrons...what more could you ask for...plus it's open til 8 am...in the other city that never sleeps. Ampersands has become a true staple of the nightlife in New Orleans..one of the first to open up after Katrina devastated the city 2 years ago and still going stronger than ever.

amoonprincessa - 04/02/2005i went to the flirt party two weeks ago and it was soo crowded that i had to go outside very often. Plus there was something about the decor of the dance floor that threw you off. The music was okay but they were playing some sort of indian music that was just not cool.
