City's Best

1714 N Las Palmas
Hollywood, CA 90028

The Scene: Landing in Tinseltown, DJ AM, a.k.a. Nicole Richie's on-again-off-again man, and the nitery's owner Loyal Pennings have remodeled the Las Palmas into LAX, an aero-dynamic lounge and restaurant catering to the city's celebs, aspiring celebs and the general party-into-the-night set. Enter the silver jet door into the metallic club, and take in the globular jellyfish tank, airplane window-shaped mirrors and red reflectors before preparing for take-off onto the dance floor. Metal grills, low red beams and orange lights are more reminiscent of standing in line for Space Mountain than getting ready for departure on the Concorde, but three bars and two outdoor smoking patios are a great relief for those who can't wait to depart the ride to light up and get lit.

Spotted Here: Read People Magazine lately? You name the hottie, they've probably been here at least once. Nicole Richie, of course, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba, Kelly Osbourne and Wilmer Valderrama turned out for the opening.

Can I Get In? LAX's velvet rope rules with an iron fist, with any Brent Bolthouse-sponsored night a particular challenge. Lines form early and the floor gets crowded, much like the city's original international hub. Call (323) 848-9300 to request guest list access.

A gay bar for sure. The bartender is a transvestite. The drinks suck...too expensive. Try somewhere else like Zanzibar.

When I went I had so much fun!! Although we circled the block a few times because my friends and I thought, "this can't be it, it says Mexican restaurant outside". But none the less we tried it out, and we were impressed by the appearance inside and how great all of the people were as well. There was a good crowd of people and we danced the whole night. One thing that I have to suggest is getting there early so it is easy to get in. The group that I came with was all girls, I know you guys out there don't think its fair that we get sent in right away, but hey we'll be waitin for ya when you get inside! :)

Well, LA night life really sucks if your new in town, lack high end female anatomy, or don't really know anyone. Best advice: be the first in line or close to it. If you've never been here before the door is on the left as you look at the building, it raises up. My wife and I really like going out dancing and we've really enjoyed this place. In a world were "official" dance floors are disappearing, this place has a modest one. Lot's of clubs don't even have dance floors anymore in favor of $$$$table service$$$ and drunkest most coked up girls dancing in front of tables and the dj booth! lol. Not LAX, has a real dance floor, nice smoking areas (within the club), and the most reasonable night life drink prices I have found. If you find it hard to get in b/c you are males see if you can get some girls to pretend you are in the same party! Buy them some drinks for the assist, you might even make some new friends for the night. I have a wife so I'm always with a girl but for others that might be an option. If you have a problem with service then do what I do: pick a bartender, stick with them (even if you have to go from one side of the club to the other), tip them at least a dollar a drink, maybe more the first couple times up (like more for mixed drinks than beer). I've gotten free rounds at LAX with that method. The door guys are dicks, just accept that, that's part of door guy life. The people with table service, reserved seating, and with high end female anatomy are going to trump you always! You'll get in, DJ AM has gots to gets his bentleys!

You need to know someone to get in. I think it was a gay club cause there were mostly guys in the club and they let in a lot of guys right away. The bartender sucked at making OVERPRICED drinks also. The drinks tasted really bad! I personally do not recommend that place. There are better night clubs than LAX.
