Taking over the space formerly occupied by Sacred Grounds, Joe's has become one of East Atlanta Village's most popular hangouts. It's not hard to see why: From the secondhand couches that invite customers to immerse themselves in the simple pleasures of conversation, to the tables that attract the laptop set, to the cozy fireplace that keeps them all warm, Joe's is the sort of homey little havens that begs you to take a load off and stay a while. The vivid works of local artist R. Land add an invigorating infusion of color, as do the faux-classic murals on the ceiling. The main attraction here, naturally, is coffee: From a variety of espressos, lattes and cappuccinos to frozen coffee drinks, their range of selections rivals that of many major coffee chains. They also offer soy milk, chai tea, hot cocoa and several flavors of fruit smoothies. And like any good coffee shop, they have a daily selection of fresh-baked muffins, bagels, cookies and cakes to choose from, as well as dog treats for those who choose to dine outside with man's best friend. -- Bret Love
