"You can lead a horticulture but you can't make her think." So said Dorothy Parker, whose witticism among many adorns Lush Lounge's walls. It's a wink at both this bar's many hanging plants and its sassy attitude. A piano bar whose ivories fell silent due to neighborhood noise concerns, this delightful lounge now bops to the mix of pop tunes wafting overhead. The bar packs in lots of stools and little tables, allowing for plenty of intense conversation. Rococo religious accents, campy movie star photos, and other retro touches keep your eye engaged, while artful chocolate and fruit martinis keep the party rolling. Frequented by a loyal gay clientele, Lush Lounge's atmosphere is friendly to all who appreciate a lemon drop and a laugh. Even on weekends, however, the crowd remains fairly local, mid-30s and older, with the occasional visitor from the more rambunctious Polk Street scene.

thomboey222 - 04/20/2004I WAS SO YOUNG AND SAN FRANCISCO WAS SO NEW TO ME. I WAS HERE. YOUNG GAY AND IN SF. AND WAS TOLD THE BEST DISCO IN TOWN WAS AT THE GULTCH.
THATS HOW LONG AGO I'M TALKING ABOUT. SO DOWN THE STREET I WENT TO DRINK BEER AND DANCE WITH ALL THE NEW PEOPLE AND NEW ADVENTURES I WAS GOING TO SEE AND DO. PASSING BY A BAR NAMES BUZZBYS' WAS HARD THE PEOPLE WERE FIGHTING TO GET IN. BUT I DID AND TO THE GULTCH
I WENT. THRU THE DOORS I WENT AND INTO MORE PEOPLE THAN I HAD EVER SEEN IN ONE ROOM MUCH LESS A BAR IN MY LIFE, PEOPLE WERE MOVING WITH A GIG. IN ONE HAND AND A BEER IN THE OTHER AND BOTH OF THEM UP IN THE AIR JUST TO GET THRU THE PACK OF PEOPLE I LANDED THERE AND SPENT THE NEXT TEN PLUS YEARS AS A LOYAL CUSTOMER. I FOUND MY ONE AND ONLY LOVE IN THAT OLD BAR GOD BLESS YOU GREG I KNOW YOUR WITH GOD. AND
OH THE FUN WE HAD.

WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO THAT OLD BAR IS TERRIFIC
A TOUCH OF CLASS IT MAKES ME FEEL SO GOOD TO SEE YOU STILL OPEN AND NOT SOME BRASS SHOP

AND THANKS FOR KEEPING THE OLD PLACE A BAR AND SOME PLACE FOR FRIENDS TO MEET. BY THE WAY IS THAT OLD WOOD FLOOR STILL THERE UNDER THE CARPET I WAS TOLD THAT IS ONE OF THE OLDEST BAR FLOORS LEFT IN THE
CITY. WELL AT LEAST IT LOOKED IT BACK IN THE DAYS WHEN I TAPPED DANCED ON IT.
