The Green Flash, a cozy bar and restaurant located on premier Pacific Beach boardwalk real estate, is named after a much-mocked phenomenon taking place at sunset. Occurring only on the clearest of nights, the green flash takes place at the exact instant the upper rim of the sun aligns with the horizon at sunset, something having to do with light scattering and dispersion. Naturally, The Green Flash's expansive beachfront patio is the perfect place to watch for it.

There's often a wait as the sun starts going down, so it's best to arrive early to stake out a spot. The bar features plenty of beverages that make ideal sunset sippers, especially the Green Flash cocktail, an appropriately green mixture of Midori, Bacardi Limon, pineapple juice and orange juice, with a squeeze of lime. The bar is also renowned for their Bloody Marys. Dining options are delectable, with plenty of seafood and steaks prime for the picking, as well as salads, burgers and pasta. But the key attraction, of course, is that elusive flash.
