Walk into one of the three dimly lit rooms or the patio of Spice Bar and you might think you're in San Francisco or New York instead of Columbus. Low lighting, thudding-but-not-too-loud music and big screens flashing chic photos provide an almost otherworldly atmosphere. The bar, usually knee-deep in trendies, also has several couches for those who'd rather think or converse on their rears. (It looks cooler if you're standing up, though.) Plus, there's a dining room for folks who are actually there to have a meal. Many of the items on the menu are served on small plates and represent a wide spectrum, from spring rolls to fried ravioli. But most notable is the drinks menu, which is three times larger than most and includes a massive list of white and red wines, artfully named martinis (including the eyebrow-raising ''Thong Panties'' -- rum, Amaretto, melon liqueur and juices), and domestic and specialty beers and champagnes. One proviso: The over-35 sophisticate may feel suspiciously over the hill.

  • An Awful New Year

    Review rating : 1out of 5   NoFunNewYear - 01/01/2009

After paying a $20 cover to get in we enjoyed the music and the different rooms of the place but the bartenders were charging different prices for drinks and when confronted about it they became defensive and flicked us off (very unprofessional). They screwed up our tabs and the manager had to get involved to sort everything out. Manager was helpful to a degree but the bartenders are shady. Make sure you check your tab and watch for over pricing. This was not a way I wanted to bring in the new year. I would not recommend this bar or will ever be back!!!

  • A let down

This place wants to be something it's not. I have been to Spice enough times to be let down every time. The security is prejudice toward black males. One night we were not permitted in because of one of the fellas. So we had our friends return home, swap jeans, and the same thing happened. Their jeans were similar in size but different cut. Most men don't wear tight jeans; that went out in the eighties.

Their portions of food are for a hungry super model and they skim on their drinks. On a lighter note their wait staff is really nice and professional.
