Terry Alexander (Mia Francesca) puts his spin on Spanish vittles with what he's calling a Spanish cafe and taberna. His latest concept is to "modernize" tapas, offering creative, smaller plates in one of his trademark groovy settings. This time, he's teamed up with fast-tracker Chris Dexter (Elm Street Liquors, Spoon, Goodbar) to turn the former mod. into an exotic playground called del Toro. The space is filled with curvy, organic touches such as concrete floors, hardwood accents, a marble bar top and two skylights for natural light. Other highlights include the dramatically candlelit room and exotic blends of Latin music. Look for del Toro to undergo three major stages as it gets off the ground: first, a fine-dining establishment; next, a late-night destination; and third, a spot for the brunch bunch. The opening menu will include hardwood-grilled lamb chops and grilled razor clams. Look for 100 percent Spanish wines behind the bar, with a list of 10 to 12 by-the-glass selections rotating weekly.

Wonderful-New-and Surprising
Having never eaten authentic spanish food, we took the plunge on January 15th, 2006. Outside is very unassuming-entering into a warm, comfortable and transforming space, the whole restaurant takes you into another world of delightful shapes, intriguing lighting, and a relaxing but romantic atmosphere. The service was impeccable, and the menu has an array of tempting and delicious varieties-something everyone would like. The food wasdevine! We had dessert in the lounge-a candle filled area with comfortable couches and seating arrangements that made you feel like you were home in your own livingroom. The decadent chocolate desserts were sinfully delicious! Very impressed-a place with style and grace, and a treat for all!
