For a mix of European charm and down-home blue plate specials, this cafe is hard to beat. In warm weather you can dine outside on the patio, complete with the peaceful sound of a waterfall. Then again, the two big-screen TVs set for big games and special events can give the courtyard a distinctly American feel.

Inside, the spacious bar and restaurant offer seven TVs and a party sensibility, which is exactly what owners Steve de Haan ("exteme" bartender), Richard Skaggs, Tyler Gaston, John Piemonte and Chris Hadermann have in mind. East Andrews Cafe serves familiar southern food with some surprising touches. Try out the filet mignon nestled on a Vidalia onion ring with a dash of garlic butter. Or maybe a hand-battered and fried Cordon Bleu stuffed with garlic brie and lean proscuitto is more your speed.

The Gourmet Blue Plates offer mix-and-match fare that includes: veal and mushroom mignon, 12-20 oz. prime rib, sides of asparagus, broccoli, an intriguing sounding risotto portfolio and no less than 13 choices of mashed potatoes. -- Edna McCown
