Way back when the West was wild and eager miners were pouring into Colorado looking to get very rich very quick, the Buckhorn Exchange applied for its liquor license and got it. That liquor license was the very first bestowed in the Centennial State, and over time the Buckhorn became steeped in legends involving one of Buffalo Bill's riders (who founded the eatery) and visits from famed outdoorsman like Teddy Roosevelt. The restaurant is considered by many to be one of Denver's quintessential historical landmarks, the frequent choice for locals with out-of-town guests and old West enthusiasts alike.
While wannabe buckaroos come to eyeball the vintage gun collection and other tokens of the yippee-ki-yay days, the hungry come for one thing: meat and lots of it. One glance around the dining rooms convinces carnivores that they're in the right spot: animal trophies, including deer and buffalo, line the ruby red walls. The meat-laden menu is the other eye-catching feature of the Buckhorn Exchange, sporting entries like rattlesnake in a red chile marinade, tasty Rocky Mountain Oysters (it is best to ask what these are before ordering) and elk. Adventurous groups of four can order a single, four-pound steak. Eaters best bring their appetites, their cameras and a desire to travel back to Colorado circa 1893.

Our experince
We were there on June 30,2008 while on vacation. We were blown away by everything we seen an experinced. The food, the decor, the service was all excellent! Had dessert which we don't normally have and the cheesecake was awesome! Forget the salad, letuce you can have anytime. The beercheese soup left you wanting to lick the bowl! I think they should have all-you-can-eat soup&bread! AWESOME PLACE!!

1st ate there in 1964 & the only thing that has changed is now I don't have to drive there. The light rail stops right out front! Still have not worked my way thru the menu. Get my high on the Rocky Mountain Oysters. YUMMM!
the wild west
the meal was just OK, i ******* had been searved with more and better service. as it is, i will call the over all experience fair.
Overpriced and overhyped

Great atmosphere, the experience ends there. The food was some of the worst I have ever had at any price. There were six of us and nobody got a good meal. They would have to pay me to go back.
The best ever

This was a birthday dinner, that could not be beat the food and service were great. this had to be the best steak ever and the rattlesnake dip was outstanding. We cannot wait to go back
One of the worst experiences

Reading the other responses posted hear I have to wonder what it was that made thier experiences so much better than ours. The atmophere is fun. But the food was awful. The meats were tough, the baked potatoe wasn't cooked through, the mashed potatoes that everyone seems to love were cold. And our waitress was veyr unpleasent and dissappeared for what seemed like hours on end. You can pay this same prices at Morton's, Elways, Ruth's Cris, and get wonderful food and a sewrver who is knowledgeable and attentive. Save your money, this is a good place to get a drink before dinner and then eat somewhere else.
Buffalo Bill and Me

Bill and I both enjoy the Buckhorn Exchange. When visiting Denver it is the one place in town that offers lunch or dinner with a "True" western flare!

Wonderful food and atmosphere. The elk appetizer was great and my filet mignon was the size of a football. Salad was fantastic, even. Spent awhile after dinner looking around, was not rushed out, they let us take as long as we wanted. A++++++++
DEDIRDAN's Review
Extremely overpriced, horrible service. As for the food, I could have done better on my grill at home
