With a name known through St. Louis, Wei Hong expanded in February 2005 from its familiar bakery and takeout place to this grand, $2 million renovated space, which offers more than 200 items on its menu dedicated to seafood and Chinese cuisine. The high ceilings are the only reminders that this used to be a theatre. Unlike a lot of Chinese restaurants in the area, the Chen family has paid close attention to the decor, and the cushy gold chairs and carved tables enforce the festive Chinese theme. Many of the different Chinese cuisines like Cantonese, Taiwanese, Szechuan and Shanghainese are covered by the extensive menu. For those with an adventurous palate, Wei Hong offers Chinese delicacies like duck tongue and pig intestines. But don't worry; they also have your commercialized egg rolls, hot and sour soup and everything in between. The salt and pepper pork chops are crisp and slightly spicy, just like the way they make it in Hong Kong. Since this is a seafood restaurant, about half the items use some kind of fish or shellfish. The steamed whole fish was fresh and lightly seasoned so that the clean taste of the fish was still evident. The wine and beer list is limited, but Wei Hong also offers fruit smoothies to cleanse a palate.

The decor was interesting, especially the restored movie screen. The food and service were great. We went on a Sunday when they served Dim Sum and it was very good. They weren't utilizing their movie screen so we were a little disappointed. I think they need to show movies or sports all of the time on the Gigantic screen.
