If delicious decor is what fuels your search for a new restaurant, you'll probably walk right by Sang Kee. However, if you enjoy succulent eats, that will be your loss. This nice-sized restaurant, which butts up against the Vine Street Expressway, is easily one of the city's most popular Asian eateries, but it's so low on atmosphere that some folks find it a turnoff. Look past the sometimes-dingy, nondescript ambience and you'll find a menu full of culinary treasures, topped off by the signature dish. The Peking duck, juicy and piquant, is served with pancakes and scallions. Those who like their Asian food highly Americanized will go for 'traditional' favorites such as sweet-and-sour or Kung Pao anything, but those with more adventurous palates can sample dishes like pig blood congee (rice-based gruel), squid in five-spice flavor, seafood and fish maw soup, and stuffed jalapenos in black bean sauce. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable, but service is odd: It's efficient until the bill arrives (often prematurely).
