This is the archetypal family-owned Chinese restaurant. It's small and unassuming, with nary a hint of what one would call ambience. But what Lee How Fook lacks in atmosphere it surely makes up for in flavor and intrigue. The menu items that seem to be the favorites are Lee How Fook's signature salt-baked squid, hot-and-sour soup, Singapore noodles, and abalone and duck soup. There's the usual cadre of Chinese favorites, but the family (Dad cooks; Mom runs the dining room) also is happy to provide some more authentic, adventuresome culinary diversions, such as tripe, chicken feet and hearts, and various exotic hot pots. A lot of what you'll find on the menu can't be had at other restaurants in town. One indication of how seriously this little place fares on the Philly restaurant scene is that this is where you'll find other local chefs unwinding after slaving over their own hot stoves.

We have been going to FOOKS for many years. It is our favorite restaurant and we are foodies. You will not be disappointed. THE BEST. Joan, PWaveJMS@aol.com. PS: We never need a doggie bag as everything is immediately devoured. Our Grandkids love it also.

The salt baked squid and broiled fish is very special. They will also cook your own freshly caught stripped bass when you bring it in......much better than you could do yourself.....besides you're tired from all that standing in the surf........and the oysters in black bean sauce,,huge and wonderful flavor (where do they get them ?) are to dreamed about all summer.
