There are several locations of Fu's Garden Restaurants scattered around Houston, but the original, at University and Kirby in Rice Village, probably has the most loyal following of satisfied customers. Owned by George and Jenny Phou, Fu's Garden is a visually appealing restaurant, with gentle lighting, polished accents and comfortable chairs around lacquered tables. The wait staff is cordial, though unobtrusive. Fu's Garden features authentic Hunan and Szechuan cuisine prepared in cholesterol-free vegetable oil, without a hint of MSG. The restaurant prides itself in using only white-meat chicken and Certified Angus beef. Health-conscious diners can choose from a long list of diet dishes that contain no artificial ingredients. You'll find your favorites on their moderately priced menu, but don't pass up the salmon dishes, which are a Fu Garden specialty.
