Although its slogan is "Real food for real people... really," Big Pink should have added the word "big" before the word "food." Portions at this mod-ish diner are huge, as is the menu itself. With so many items to choose from, including a retro-fabulous, old-fashioned TV dinner of the day, Big Pink makes it difficult to make a decision. That is, unless you're in the mood for a 10-ounce Angus beef hamburger, in which case you've come to the right place. Though it sounds simple, a Big Pink burger is actually very complex, since there are at least 10 kinds to choose from. Of course, there's the classic: an unadorned burger with a side of homemade fries, which for old-schoolers is the best bet. But then there are the fancier ones, including the BBQ burger, with bacon, fried onions, barbecue sauce and Jack cheese; the chili burger, which speaks for itself; and the Ventnor pizza burger with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce. Whether you choose to adorn your burger with fancy toppings such as provolone, Brie or sauteed mushrooms is a decision that's entirely up to you. The Big Pink burger stands well enough on its own, but the options -- which are aplenty -- are there in case you want them. -- Lesley Abravanel
