Cheap Indian food is always a risky venture for some paper-stomached Yankees, but with the reputation that Tina and Mehernosh Daroowalla have built in this neck of the woods, it's naan and dal for everyone. Owners of the ritzier Indian on the Hudson, the Daroowalla's nailed their dream of a quirky, casual neighborhood joint with Karma Kafe's great, nasal-clearing Indian. They've built a legion of addicts, and the word is spreading like a fiery tandoori through the belly of Hoboken. The best way to acquaint yourself with Karma Kafe, or Indian food in general if you're a beginner, is the buffet. Karma Kafe's lunch buffet, priced below $10, lets you navigate through every bold flavor, picking and choosing your favorite fire level and flavors. At that price, the quality can't be beat, and you'll have extra money for some antacid afterwards. Once you've built up a tolerance, you'll appreciate that Karma Kafe offers unusual regional dishes, like peppery chicken Kali Mirch and Rajasthani achari lamb redolent with mustard seed and chili.

I had heard a lot so I dragged a bunch of nay sayers (boy were they surprised) last weekend. The restaurant was busy we waited at the bar and were seated as promised. From the appetizers ( the best samosas ever) to the dinner ( I had the gigantic Tandoori Medley) everything was perfect. We cant wait to go back....my nay saying friends included.
My review of Karma
Went there for dinner. The food was fabulous. Great portions and very well priced esp. in these lean times. Very polite and attentive waiters. Truly worth the the trip.
Not for vegetarians
The other day I went for a lunch buffet at Karma Kafe and I was really really disappointed. They just had two vegetarian curries- one was chana masala and other was boiled green beans. Both the vegetables were really very very average. They had no vegetarian appetizers. It was really a disappointing meal. Really for a vegetarian there were no choices. Their dessert was poor too. I don't think I am ever going to go to Karma Kafe for lunch buffet again. It is certainly not a place for vegetarians.
Ughhh!
The setting was nice but the food was not at all what i expected it wasn't good at all i went home sick and service was poor.
