Freebirds has such a weird trippy student vibe that many assume the Texas chain hails from Austin. But no, this nest of monster build-it-yourself burritos, exuberant populist decor and customer tin foil sculptures (from the burrito wrappers, of course) comes straight from Aggie-land. Started in the '70s in an itsy-bitsy space in College Station within walking distance of Texas A&M, Freebirds was an Aggie game day tradition, when the two-hour lines would stretch around the block, and no employee was allowed to take a day off. The gang of largely student employees (they get free textbooks and bonuses for good grades) stand ready to take a practically pizza-sized burrito and stuff it with your choice of meat, fixin's and sauce, which runs the gamet from mild to Habenero Death. Lots of nostalgic Aggies frequent the Houston outpost, as well as hungry youth of every stripe. -- Ann Walton Sieber

Freebirds Rocks
I attended Texas A&M and have been a fan of Freebirds for 15 years. I have ordered the same thing for 15 years. It never dissapoints!

I tried the one on Bay Area Blvd. in CLear Lake and it was fabulous. The food was fresh and hot the buritto was huge and the atmosphere was great. The prices are not bad especially when you look at the portion of food you are getting. It may not 5 or 6 dollars but food to price ratio....well you get the point...you get lots more than what you pay for!
This place is NOT cheap and skimps on ingredients
EVERY time we go in, they are skimpy on the cheese, white meat chicken (which is usually, old, dried out and cold) the sour cream and guacamole are OUTRAGEOUS @ .79 each for a scant little serving. I find little to no value in what they offer. Unless you are they bud in which case they pile on the toppings.
